Catalyst for Good #1 Case Study
The Mainframe
BACKGROUND
The Mainframe came to the C4G as an early stage organization, run by a sole founder, focusing on promoting Black technology in the Tampa Bay area by hosting events that focused on Black tech leaders and initiatives and were sponsored by tech organizations. The organization had a successful track record of generating publicity, raising awareness, and hosting events, but lacked a directed method of effecting change, or a way in which it could deliver tangible and impactful solutions surrounding its cause.
PROGRAM
Over the two months that The Mainframe was engaged with C4G, the founder met with ten seasoned industry experts to develop specific areas of the organization. These included:
- Mission & vision
- Strategy
- Social media
- Engagement
- Development
- Branding
- Operations
- Banking
- Accounting
- Legal

Unexpected Deliverables: The Catalyst for Good program can yield surprising and off the beaten path results. In this instance, through the standard C4G process, we discovered that The Mainframe could benefit tremendously from a tangible, results-oriented program that encapsulated the mission of The Mainframe. The Jobs Catalyst program was born.
The Jobs Catalyst program sources qualified Black candidates from the Tampa Bay area, takes them through a full-time full-stack developer training program in partnership with Suncoast Developers Guild, then employs them via corporate sponsorships. With the development of this program, The Mainframe was able to move from raising awareness about the lack of Black representation in tech sectors to actively engaging in solving the problem with positive change.
